Law 100 Introduction to Law
1 Term; 3 Credits

This course is designed to assist students to understand legal concepts and principles of law in the commercial and business contexts. It also aims to provide students with an elementary knowledge of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region legal system. After completing the course, students will have an understanding of the Rule of Law, HKSAR legal system and those areas of the law concerned with law and commerce. Furthemore, students will acquire the necessary legal knowledge and tech-niques to pursue legal studies later in the programme.

 

Law 250 Business Law
1 Term; 3 Credits

The course aims to give a brief introduction to the legal system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with emphasis on its legal and constitutional framework; and equip students with the fundamental knowledge of the legal principles of commercial transactions.
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
(1) have a basic understanding of the legal system of Hong Kong;
(2) have a clear understanding of the basic legal principles of the Law of Contract, Employment and Agency;
(3) apply in practice the relevant law and principles to tackling simple legal problem involving business law; and
(4) have a critical thinking about the business law relevant to their profession. The course embraces the following major topics: Legal System, Law of Contract, Law of Employment and Law of Agency.

 

Law 331-2 Company Law
2 Terms; 6 Credits
The course aims at providing students with a comprehensive knowledge of all the fundamental principles of Company Law, as well as acquainting them with the growing body of case law intended primarily for shareholder protection. Moreover, the course aims at laying emphasis on principles of common law and equity on which a large part of Company Law is still based. In addition, the course covers detailed analyses of the provisions of the Companies Ordinance with a view to equipping students with the ability to apply them to any given situation.
