Course Aims

This course aims at promoting students’ understanding on three major areas:

1. the biological foundations of behaviour and its related properties;

2. the research methodology applied to this area and its related ethnical issues;
    and

3. the relationship between some psychological processes and it’s biological
    foundations.

They will be expected to generate some research questions in investigating the relationship between psychological processes and their underlying physiological and neurophysiological events.

 

Course Objectives

After completing this course, students will be able to:

1. understand the basic biology of human behaviours including nerve cells, the
    nerve impulses, neurotransmitter, the nervous system (central and peripheral
    nervous system), the brain and hormones;

2. appreciate the different research methodology in investigating the biological
    basis of human behaviour;

3. aware of the ethnical issues involved in conducting animal or drug studies;

4. explain the biological cause of some daily encounter phenomena on
    wakefulness and sleep such as jet lag and dreams;

5. understand why we feel hunger and thirst and how we regulate our body
    temperature;

6. explain the relationship between learning, memory and language with brain
    functioning;

7. understand the biological basis of emotion.
