Course Aims

This is an introduction to the social behavioural aspect of human nature. Topics start with a general orientation to social psychology and then proceed to specific topics relevant to the understanding of human behavior in social situations: attribution, social beliefs and judgment, interpersonal liking and attraction, group influence, attitude and behaviour, persuasion, aggression, etc. Relevant theories and applications are sought.


 

Course Objectives

After completing this course, students will be able to:

1. understand what social psychology is about – e.g. theoretical foundations,
    methods, and major areas of concern;

2. develop a systematic and critical appraisal on how one affects as well as being
    affected by others;

3. enrich perspectives in viewing the human social world.

 

   
Assessment Class Participation
Reflection Paper
          - student will choose a social psychology topic that is of interest,
            then survey the topic and make critical reflection on it in relation to
           (e.g.) the local context of Hong Kong
          - use of the APA style is encouraged

Final Project and Presentation
        - an application-oriented paper
        - a social psychology topic selected by student
        - use of the APA style is encouraged
