Course Aims

The course aims to get students acquainted with the understanding of personality. Theories, research methods and applications pertaining to the study of personality are covered. Over the course, a survey of various personality perspectives such as the psychoanalytic, lifespan, cognitive, behavioural, humanistic, and traits approach is introduced. Application of the theories is sought in an attempt to enhance students’ understanding of their own selves as well as others.


 

Course Objectives

The course is intended to familiarize students with major perspectives on understanding personality. Key figures and concepts relevant to the various theories are introduced. Furthermore, the course incorporates the element of self-growth and critical thinking. Students will be asked to reflect on themselves using knowledge about personality. They will also conduct critical analysis of their chosen subjects’ personality. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to:

1. identify major theories, concepts, and key figures pertinent to the study of
    personality;

2. analyze subjects using personality theories and related concepts;

3. critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of the various personality
    theories ;

4. apply the acquired knowledge to further understanding the self.

Literature Research Paper
          - self-selected a relevant topic that is of interest to students
          - use of the APA style of citation
Critical Analysis Project (paper and presentation)
        - students can choose the subject for analysis
        - apply and evaluate the chosen theory(s)
        - use of the APA style of citation is encouraged
