Course Aims

The course introduces fundamental concepts relevant to human cognitive processes. The information processing approach is generally adopted. The course starts with an overview of the field of cognitive psychology and then proceeds to covering relevant topics such as pattern recognition, attention, short-term memory, long-term memory, categorization, visual images, problem solving, cognition and emotion, etc. Relevant application for everyday experience is sought.


 

Course Objectives

The course is intended to familiarize students with fundamental knowledge about cognitive psychology. After completing the course, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate understanding of the field of cognitive psychology – e.g. figures,
    research methods.

2. identify various components of cognitive processes and understand how they
    work.

3. demonstrate knowledge of the information processing model for
    explaining/describing human cognitive processes.

4. apply relevant concepts to everyday life experience.

 

   
Assessment Class Participation
Journal
        - to record daily experience in relation to the materials learned in class
Final Project and Presentation
        - students can choose a relevant topic of their own interest
          and do a study on it
        - submit a final project report written in the APA format
