Overview

This is primarily a doctorate-by-thesis programme. Students can choose to take the following foundation courses in the early stages for preparing their research study:

* EHPS 590 Research Methods 1

* EDUC 591 Research Methods 2: Action Research or

HS 591 Research Methods 2: Surveys and other Quantitative Methodologies or

PDAL 591 Research Methods 2: Interpretive and Critical Approaches

* HS 554:12 Reading Course

* TBA:12 Special Topics (Research Proposal) is an individualised unit in which you develop a research proposal.

* TBA:12 Special Topics (Pilot Study) is an individualised unit in which you design, conduct and report on a pilot study.

With the support of two Academic Supervisors (one from UNE and the other from SYU) , candidates pursue a programme of research at the PhD level on an approved topic in the field of Counselling. Students can select a research topic relevant to the field of Counselling based on their research interests and/or the workplace research priorities of their organization.

Duration and Prerequisites

Candidates complete their research over 4-8 years part-time or 3-4 years full-time. In general terms, candidates must show evidence that they have potential for research and must have already completed a masters degree including research training or a bachelor degree with a strong research focus, or equivalent and at a standard acceptable to the UNE Higher Degree Research Committee.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of UNE's PhD in the field of Counselling are successfully employed in a wide variety of positions including those of senior clinicians, leadership positions in counselling, and in research and academia.

Fees
¡@

The tuition fees for international students are currently (2007) AUD$5520 per year for part-time enrolment and AUD$11,040 per year for full-time enrolment. Fees are paid in two instalments, in March and August each year.

Fees are subject to annual increments.
