English Festival 2005
March 7 - 18

The English Festival 2005 is to arouse the fellow Shue Yan schoolmates' the long-lost interest in the art of the second language, rather than a foreign language as it is believed to be, English, through an exhibition and some light-hearted games, endeavouring to bring back the interesting side of, and use of English closest to our daily lives, but not confining to academic or business premise. The Festival is also held in the purpose of promoting the English Department, contributing our efforts to our Department as the degree programme is to be validated in due course; and, last but not least, providing a mood for 'festivals' as our activities are tightly preceding the College Festival (®Õ¶é¸`).

Colloquial Chinese (or Cantonese) Translation

A variety of commonly used Chinese and Cantonese colloquial in everyday lives is chosen for the participants to translate into English. The judge will be one of the lecturers of the English Department. Accuracy, of course, is one of the main criteria, but we would also put some emphasis on amusing works.

Tongue Twister

Participants are requested to finish a set of tongue twisters within a short period of time. For those who accomplished the criteria will be rewarded some souvenirs.

Female of No Great Importance

It is a tailor-made exhibition to celebrate the Women's Day (March 8). We will introduce 30 women, who have been influential and posing a great impact to the modern world.
