JOUR 320 News Translation

(1 Term; 3 Credits)

The main objective of this course is to train and develop students' skills in journalistic writing in both the Chinese and English languages and the translation from English into Chinese and vice versa of an appropriate genre. This objective demands not only full comprehension of the source language but also fluency in the expression of the target language. The general knowledge of translation as well as the techniques and principles of news writing form part of the study. At the end of the course, students should be able to produce Chinese or English versions from a wide variety of news materials.
