JOUR 395 Application of Information Technology in Communication

(1 Term; 3 Credits)

The course helps students apply journalistic skills to the Internet. The course reviews basic principles of journalism (such as objectivity, fairness and accuracy) while showing readers how to put these principles into practice online. The course presents a combination of broad conventions, basic technological information and practical applications. It shows how the Internet can be used to take journalism in new, more participatory directions. The course rounds up with Internet issues and controversies. Moreover, the course provides students with hands-on experience in using a variety of communication tools to demonstrate their understanding of the nature of information technology applications in communication.
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
a)       Understand the broad issues in Internet issues and controversies in communication;
b)       Communicate effectively through information technology applications; and
c)        Examine contemporary communication tools from different perspectives.
