Department of Sociology

seeks a candidate for one full-time position to begin in September 2012. Title and salary will depend on the applicants’ qualifications, teaching experience and research profile. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Sociology or related disciplines by time of appointment. Ph.D. candidates who are close to finishing their dissertation will be considered. Preference will be given to the applicants who are able to teach courses the following areas: Criminology, Deviance, Sociology, and Sociology of Organizations.

Full-time Senior Lecturer / Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism & Communication

Applicants should have a doctorate degree in New Media / Digital Media / Information Technology or a related field. The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate courses, including computer graphic design and online publishing, multimedia reporting, visual storytelling, digital journalism and communication, and other courses related to the candidate's areas of expertise.

Applicants should have a relevant higher degree in Cultural Studies and should be able to teach English Usage and Writing courses. Preference will be given to applicants who have had a few years of teaching experience in tertiary institutions, and also those who specialize in the following areas:
• Cultural and Literary Theories
• Areas in Cultural Studies such as urban studies, pop culture and film studies

Non-Academic Positions:

DEPARTMENT OF COUNSELLING & PSYCHOLOGY
Position: Full-time Project Assistant [1-year contract]

Applicants should possess
(i) a Bachelor's degree in Counselling, Psychology, Statistics or a related discipline;
(ii) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese;
(iii) with good communication skills, interpersonal skills and analytical abilities;
(iv) basic IT skills, in particular proficiency in using MS Office, and data analysis software (e.g. SPSS).

The appointee will assist in the project entitled "Professional Training Programs & Research Project for Hong Kong PHAB Association" in conducing survey, focus group and individual interviews, data analysis and the administrative work of the project. The appointee may be required to work outdoors and on irregular hours. Immediate availability is preferred.

Vacancy: Clerk (Office of Student Affairs)

Responsibilities:

  • To handle student services enquiries;
  • To perform clerical and administrative duties;
  • To process student services documents;
  • To perform cashier duties and to prepare the associated financial reports;

  • Other tasks assigned by supervisors.

Requirements:
- F.7 or above, ability in English and Mandarin is an advantage;
- At least 1-2 years’ working experience;
- Able to work independently, as well as working in team environment;

- Mature, responsible and self-driven;
- Good PC knowledge including Chinese/English Processing; Microsoft Office Applications.
