The Department of Sociology is inviting applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor to start in September 2014. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates should have a doctorate degree in sociology or related disciplines, and demonstrate the ability to effectively teach at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels while pursuing an active research agenda. Fields of specialization include, but are not limited to, contemporary Chinese societies, Asian society, economic sociology, economic change and development, social policy, social enterprise, criminology, youth studies, and quantitative research methods. Academic Position in Accounting
Founded in 1971, Hong Kong Shue Yan University is an independent liberal arts university and is Hong Kong's first private university. The Department of Accounting offers a four-year honours degree in Accounting, which has also been accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants for direct entry into its Qualification Programme. The University has a vacancy for a full-time appointment in Accounting.
To be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor, applicants should have a Ph.D. in accounting or a related area, a proven record of research ability, and relevant teaching experience at degree level. The successful candidate may be required to teach some of the senior-level courses including: Accounting Theory, Accounting Research Methodology, International Accounting, and Accounting System in China. Applicants with a master's degree and a professional accounting certification along with a solid background in university degree teaching may be considered at the rank of Lecturer. Assistant/Associate Professor in Conflict Resolution
The Department of Law and Business and the Institute of Conflict Engagement and Resolution (IICER) invites applications for the following academic position to commence in 2014.
IICER is a cross-disciplinary University Institute, which brings together the fields of Alternative Dispute Resolution, Mediation, Law, Business, Psychology, Counselling and Coaching. In addition to developing a strong research programme, IICER offers innovative and dynamic postgraduate education and training in mediation and conflict resolution. Qualifications and Experience: Applicants should have a Doctoral Degree in a relevant discipline, such as conflict management, psychology, business, coaching, peace studies, organizational development or law, strong language skills in English, strong oral and written communication skills, and a capacity to undertake research in conflict resolution related topics. A proven research record, a professional commitment to conflict resolution, a capacity to develop links with professional bodies and an ability to work with others as a team will be an advantage.
The appointee will be required to teach postgraduate courses in IICER’s innovative new Master of Mediation and Conflict Resolution Programme (MMCR). The MMCR is a boutique postgraduate programme that features flexible delivery through intensive face-to-face classes supplemented by dynamic online learning. The MMCR is professionally focused and will offer pathways to professional certification for mediators, conflict coaches, arbitrators, collaborative practitioners and others. The successful candidate may also be required to teach in the courses of a relevant university department, depending on the appointee’s relevant discipline. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the research and professional activities of the Institute of Conflict Engagement and Resolution (IICER).

Programme Management Assistant (Mediation and Conflict Resolution)
The International Institute for Conflict Engagement and Resolution (IICER) is part of the Department of Law and Business of the Hong Kong Shue Yan University. The Institute focuses on research, training and education for mediation and conflict resolution professionals in addition to conducting research and giving advice on policy and professional practice / standards.
IICER is seeking to appoint a full-time Programme Management Assistant (Mediation and Conflict Resolution).
- To conduct activities related to the recruitment of students to the Masters in Mediation and Conflict Resolution Programme in Hong Kong and internationally.
- To work and liaise with external mediation, arbitration and other professional agencies in relation to promotion and recognition of courses.
- To draft documents for the promotion of the Masters in Mediation and Conflict Resolution Programme,
- To deal with students in admission and registration matters.
- To deal with administrative duties related to the enrollment of short professional courses.
- To support academic staff in the execution of the teaching and research programme of IICER.
- To co-ordinate events such as seminars, book launches and conferences.
- The applicant should possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Good written English and Chinese and fluency in Cantonese, Putonghua, and English.
- At least 1 to 2 years of work experience in related administrative service preferred.
- Ability to work with University students
- Possession of excellent administrative & IT skills, preferably with the ability to update websites.
- Ability to work independently on specific tasks.
