GEC 113 Badminton and Table Tennis
1 Term; 3 Credits
Badminton and table tennis are popular sports, and there are many similarities and
differences between them. By learning the theoretical knowledge and technical application of
these two sports, students can have a better understanding of the process of change in the
sports. Students' sports skills and analytical skills are improved after completing the course,
especially through watching a badminton game and doing statistical analysis of the data.
In addition, in the world of sports, the behaviour of coaches and athletes will be affected
by their respective values. Through step by step learning, students could have a deeper
understanding of athletes' behaviour.
GEC 201 Emotional Intelligence and Thriving under Pressure
1 Term; 3 Credits
This course will be fun, interactive and highly engaging; its aim is to provide students
experiencing changes in emotional intelligence (EI) with strategies and skills that allow them to
remain focused and productive, and even to excel.
The course will address not only the principle of EI, but what each student can do to
improve his/her application of EI. With a better understanding of oneself and others, strategies
can be put in place to maintain a positive mindset, manage stress, build positive relationships
with others and deliver better results.
Change is stressful and often causes conflict. Change efforts are most successful when
the people on the receiving end of the change understand why and how it is happening. With
this understanding and awareness, students will be better equipped to develop strategies and
tactics to thrive.
The course will also help students understand the role of pressure in enhancing
performance. It will explore the causes, signs and symptoms of pressure, then techniques and
strategies for taking control of events.
GEC 202 Positive Life with Chinese Literature
1 Term; 3 Credits
This course introduces Chinese literary works that contain positive thinking towards life,
enhancing students’ abilities of understanding and analysing Chinese literary works. Students
will learn how writers solved problems with positive attitudes and methods when facing
pressure from different daily life aspects such as personal relationships, fate, health, career
path, and social life. This course will also foster positive thinking in students, helping them
realise the meaning of life, cultivate resilience, enhance stress management, and achieve
