PSY 566 Introduction to Investigative Psychology
                                                                            1 Term; 3 Credits
This course aims to enhance understanding of criminal behaviours and the investigative
process. It emerged in response to early experiential approaches to offender profiling and a
desire to formulate an empirical, evidence-based method of criminal investigation. This course
aims to familiarize students with the key classical and contemporary studies and findings in
investigative psychology and develop critical thinking of the validity of various investigative
methods (e.g. offender profiling). Several important issues in investigative psychology,
including suspect interview, police interrogation, lie detection, false confession, offender
          profiling, will be covered.

PSY 567 Psychological Testing and Assessment
                                                                            1 Term; 3 Credits
This course aims to introduce the principles and practice of psychological assessment. In
addition to several widely used norm-referenced tests of intellectual ability, personality,
attitudes and values. Consideration will also be given to assessments that are relevant to
investigative and forensic settings. Students will become familiar with the strengths, limitations,
interpretation, and presentation of findings from a variety of assessment instruments and will
learn skills in both assessment planning and report writing. Students will learn about the ethical
and social implications of assessment in a variety of contexts including socially and
linguistically diverse populations. Opportunities for practice administration of assessment tools
          will be provided.
