Academic Cooperation

      International/Chinese Academic Cooperation

                              (with Overseas/Chinese Universities)

The Beginning

Since its founding, Shue Yan has established affiliations and relations with North Amer-
ican universities. With a view to promoting cultural exchange, Shue Yan and Northeast
Louisiana University jointly conducted credit-bearing summer courses in Business Manage-
ment, Accountancy, and Sociology at Shue Yan during 1972-78. Courses in Sociology were
also conducted jointly with the Palm Beach Atlantic College in 1974.

The first trans-Pacific summer course in 1972 was described by the South China Morn-
ing Post as “a great success”, and elicited favourable comments from other leading newspa-
pers for its contribution to the understanding of some of the problems facing the U.S. and
Hong Kong. Over the years these courses have undoubtedly made their academic and
cultural contributions and enriched the experience of the student participants as well as the
visiting professors. In view of these achievements, Shue Yan has spared no effort in devel-
oping programmes of academic cooperation accordingly.
