Shue Yan University Prospectus 2023-24
In September 2021, the University marked its 50th Anniversary with a series of
celebration events via online platforms. Meanwhile, under the continued impact of the
pandemic, the University adopted dual mode for all classes except skill- and practice-based
training. All classes were conducted on a face-to-face basis for students who were resident on
campus and simultaneously delivered via Zoom online for students unable to travel to the
University. This arrangement was disrupted by the start of the 5th wave of COVID-19 in late
December and early January 2022, and classes were again switched to online mode at the
beginning of the 2nd Semester.
In March 2022, at the height of the 5th wave, the University established isolation floors in
the student dormitories to accommodate infected student residents and to reduce strain on the
overloaded public healthcare system. The lifting of restrictions that followed the pronounced
drop in COVID cases resulting from improved vaccination rates and increased community
immunity enabled the University to resume face-to-face teaching and learning in September
2022.
Since then, encouraged by the reopening of the borders between Hong Kong and
Mainland China in January 2023, and the subsequent lifting of all restrictions, University life
has gradually returned to normal and students have embraced the many opportunities provided
to them to engage in a wide range of activities in Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas in
pursuit of their learning and employment goals.
