HKSYU Launches Game Development Laboratory

The Department of Applied Data Science at HKSYU proudly unveiled its new Game Development Laboratory — a dynamic space designed to foster creativity and technical innovation among faculty and students.

The lab’s opening ceremony took place at the university’s Research Complex, attended by Mr Lee Chung-sin, Deputy Secretary for Education; HKSYU senior management, department heads; and representatives from the education, technology, and gaming sectors.

In her opening remarks, Professor Sun Tien-lun, HKSYU Senior Vice President, expressed gratitude to the Education Bureau for its continuous support of self-financing post-secondary institutions, which enabled the launch of BSc (Hons) in Digital Solutions for Entertainment and Game Applications and the new lab. These initiatives aim to nurture student creativity, enhance practical skills, and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

As a highlight of the event, an eSports friendly match between students and university management was held, fostering team spirit and supporting students’ holistic development.

Charles Choi and Ginson Leung, graduates of Shue Yan's Business Administration Department in the 1990s, have lived in Canada for many years. Recently, they returned to their alma mater to revisit the scenery and vitality of the Braemar Hill campus.

HKSYU Academics Develop Mobile App to Help Muslim Students Find Halal Food

Hong Kong Shue Yan University has welcomed a growing number of non-Chinese speaking students from diverse religious backgrounds, including Muslim students, in recent years. When Dr Philip LEE Tin-yun, Associate Head of the Department of Economics and Finance, learned that Muslim students were finding it difficult to access halal food in Hong Kong, he partnered with Mr Bosco TSIN Hingyan, Lecturer in the same department, to develop Islamic Compass HK. The mobile application helps users locate halal restaurants, prayer rooms, and hotels across the city, supporting Muslim students as they adapt to local life.

HKSYU's "Three Yu Lan Festivals" Project Promoted at Beijing ICH Week

Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) has made significant strides in preserving and innovatively transmitting intangible cultural heritage (ICH). The project, “Three Yu Lan Festivals: Research, Transmission and Promotion,” led by Academic Vice President Professor Selina Chan Ching, was recently invited by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Beijing Municipal People's Government to participate in the 2025 Beijing International Week of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
