Department of History hosted academic seminar on teaching methods and applications of History and Chinese History

The academic seminar, organized by Department of History at HKSYU and co-organized by Centre for Research and Teaching in Chinese History, was held at HKSYU on February 15, 2025. It attracted over a hundred teachers and students from 35 secondary schools, universities, and academic and cultural organizations. The seminar featured four speakers from the education sector, who shared insights on the teaching methods and applications of History and Chinese History.

Vice Principal Mr Kwan Chi-hang from The Methodist Church Hong Kong Wesley College shared that in the new era, teachers need to "think and teach like historians." Vice Principal Mr Hung Chiu-lung from Queen Elizabeth School Old Students' Association Tong Kwok Wah Secondary School introduced how generative AI can be applied in history teaching. Ms Chung Wai-yee from St. Antonius Girls' College shared different Chinese history teaching methods, including the use of historical court, debate and exchange group teaching.

Prof He Qiliang, Head of the Department of History at HKSYU, delivered a welcome speech, stating that the purpose of organizing this seminar was to promote history education and help teachers, students, and the public understand the latest developments in the field. He pointed out that in the AI era, teaching and learning face new challenges and changes, emphasizing the importance of "understanding how to better utilize AI rather than being used by AI." Dr Agnes Pang, Associate Head of the Department of History and seminar host, introduced the latest curriculum developments of the Department of History.
