Dr Jason Chow, HKSYU Vice President (University Administration), attended the “T with you” Community Exhibition organized by Jockey Club Carer Space in Tsing Yi.
A highlight of the exhibition was a virtual reality (VR) experience titled “A Day in the Life of People with Dementia”, developed collaboratively by HKSYU’s Department of Social Work, Department of Counselling and Psychology, Teaching and Learning Development Office (TLDO), and Research Centre for Digital Education and Blended Intelligence. This immersive simulation offers participants a deeper understanding of the daily challenges and emotional difficulties faced by individuals living with dementia.
The VR experience has also been applied in staff training activities at several elderly service centers, including the Hong Kong Christian Mutual Improvement Society Chuang Chung Wen Centre for the Elderly (Lai Tak Estate) and the Ko Chiu Road Centre of Christ Love for the Aged. It aims to help frontline caregivers gain a deeper understanding of the needs of people living with dementia.
During the event, Dr Chow participated in a stress-relief exercise and enjoyed performances by carers, including a nunchaku demonstration and an a cappella singing performance. He expressed that HKSYU is devoted to promoting digital humanities and aims to leverage research outcomes to foster stronger engagement and interaction with the community.
