In support of National Security Education Day 2026, Hong Kong Shue Yan University organised a thematic sharing session titled “National Security Education Day 2026 – Safeguarding Cultural Security through Research”.
In his opening remarks, Dr Li Wan-on, Associate Academic Vice President (University Research), noted that scholars from the Departments of History, Chinese Language and Literature, Sociology, and Journalism and Communication shared their research on frontier history, music culture, digital cultural heritage, and martial arts and sports culture. Together, these presentations offered a multi-dimensional understanding of “cultural security,” illustrating how diverse academic perspectives can contribute to a more comprehensive view of the subject.
Dr Li further highlighted that, as the University marks its 55th anniversary, HKSYU continues to uphold its “teaching-based, research-led” ethos, connecting academic development with the broader national agenda of cultural security and cultural advancement. He emphasised that cultural security is not an abstract concept, but one that is embedded in research themes and teaching practices.
The sharing session was attended by members of the University’s senior management, including Senior Vice President Professor Catherine Sun Tien-lun and Vice President (University Administration) Dr Chow Tak-sang, as well as department heads, administrative staff, students, and alumni from different cohorts. Participants also viewed the live broadcast of the opening ceremony and thematic seminar of National Security Education Day, including the keynote address delivered by Mr Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.
