In September 2024, Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) proudly launched Hong Kong’s first International Foundation Year Programme (IFYP), welcoming 15 international students from South Korea, India, Pakistan, and Myanmar.
The IFYP is designed to equip international students with the essential skills and knowledge needed for undergraduate studies at HKSYU. The curriculum includes foundational training in languages, academic subjects, cultural understanding, and technology. Students will delve into business administration, data analysis, psychology, and sociology, while also enhancing their English and Chinese proficiency.
To enrich their learning experience, the IFYP offers cultural activities like workshops and field trips, helping students understand the diverse cultures of Hong Kong, where East meets West. This semester, students enjoyed a coffee art workshop and a visit to Mei Ho House.
HKSYU supports international students with free on-campus accommodation, a prayer room, and halal food options. Graduates of the IFYP who meet the language proficiency requirements can enroll in HKSYU’s undergraduate programmes in September 2025.
Dr Michelle CHAN, Director of the IFYP, emphasized the programme’s holistic approach, while Professor Catherine Sun highlighted its role in HKSYU’s internationalization efforts. This pioneering initiative is a testament to Hong Kong’s commitment to building the Study in Hong Kong brand.
