University of Hong Kong men's basketball team won the second place in the "Metropolitan Cup 2023/24 Men's 3x3 Basketball Competition"

The "Metropolitan Cup 2023/24 Men's 3x3 Basketball Competition" will be held from June 21st to 23rd.

The men's basketball team of Hong Kong Shue Yan University (hereinafter referred to as "UM") won the runner-up honor in the "Metropolitan Cup 2023/24 Men's 3x3 Basketball Competition" hosted by Hong Kong Metropolitan University. The competition was held from June 22 to 23. A total of 18 tertiary institutions were invited to participate, of which 11 teams were local tertiary institutions and 7 teams were from institutions in the Mainland, Macau and Singapore. This competition not only allows teams to show off their skills, compete with each other and improve their personal skills, but also promotes mutual understanding and communication between local athletes and overseas teams, broadening their international horizons.

Renda men's basketball team sent 6 players to participate, including Lu Zhiming, Liu Weijie, Weng Lang, Pu Junlang, Zhao Yihan and Chen Junxiong, and was led by coach Zhao Weiheng. The preliminary round is divided into four groups, each group competes in a single round-robin. Renmin University is arranged in Group B. The same group includes Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong and Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. The top two teams in each group advance to the cup, while the third and fourth teams advance to the disc competition.

The Men's Basketball Team of Renmin University entered the disc tournament in third place with one win and two losses in the preliminary round, and faced the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong in the disc finals. In the end, they lost 13:11 and finished second. Among them, Weng Lang was awarded one of the most valuable player awards (MVP) in the disc tournament.

Coach Zhao Weiheng said that the pre-game training was effective, and the players also performed to their due level in the game. The strength of the Renda Men’s Basketball Team in the three-person competition was on par with other teams. This game was a good one for the team. A heart booster.

When the team members accepted the Shue Yan Newsletter after the game, they said they were very grateful to Hong Kong Metropolitan University for the invitation. The teammates’ mutual encouragement and hard work in the game were the key to successfully winning the runner-up place in the disc competition. They also said that the success of this competition was hard-won and could only be achieved through the careful teaching of the coach and the hard training of the players.

The Sports Department encourages sports school teams to participate in more competitions of different sizes, with the purpose of allowing the team members to establish a stronger tacit understanding and increase competition experience.
