The Department of Counselling and Psychology at HKSYU recently held a thematic course focusing on students with mental illness, supporting primary teachers in dealing with Special Educational Needs (SEN) students, and promoting school health. Fruity, an adorable 6-year-old Labrador companion dog who stole hearts in the classroom, became the highlight of the session.
Accompanied by Eric, a trainer from Hong Kong Seeing Eye Dog Services (HKSEDS), Fruity showcased how companion dogs can bring joy and emotional support to schools, from obeying commands like “sit” and “shake hands” to lifting spirits.
While HKSEDS primarily assists the visually impaired, they are expanding their Companion Dog Service to help more communities—including seniors and SEN students.
