Chief Secretary for Administration Mr. Chan Kwok-ki Visits HKSYU: Progressing with the Times to Respond to the Needs of Young People
The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr. Chan Kwok-ki attended the “JMC Talk” held by the Department of Journalism and Communication of HKSYU on January 17, sharing his views on the “Youth Development Blueprint”. Mr. Chan expressed the need to nurture a new generation of young people with an affection for our country and Hong Kong and equipped with a global perspective, adopting a positive attitude towards young people, strengthening the sense of ownership of young people, and responding to the needs of young people in a timely manner.
Shue Yan Sociology students represent Hong Kong to Promote Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage
9 Sociology students won in the 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area College Student Creativity Festival (Hong Kong Division) and the winning teams were selected to represent Hong Kong to participate the final contest held in Guangzhou in May.
Academic Vice President Professor CHAN Ching Selina was Appointed as a Member of AAB
The Government recently announced the membership of the Antiquities Advisory Board in its new term, Professor CHAN Ching Selina, Academic Vice President of HKSYU was appointed as a new member for a two-year term. Prof. CHAN Ching is a professor in the Department of Sociology, her research interests focus on cultural heritage and collective memories, food and identities, religion and intangible cultural heritage, as well as kinship, lineage and colonialism. She is also a member of the Sub-committee on ICH Items under the Intangible Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lord Wilson Heritage Trust.
BA Student Jessica Wins International Award for Innovative Project
Our student wins an international award. The International Unit has previously launched a Virtual International Online Program for our students in collaboration with the Singapore University of Social Science (SUSS), the third-year student Jessica from the BBA HRMAP programme successfully stood out of multinational participants after completing the courses, and won The Most Liked Solution Award by the Make A Difference (MAD) course of SUSS.

HKSYU Library Newly Set Up a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Corner
The newly set up Special Educational Needs (SEN) Corner at HKSYU Library is being operationalized to provide students with special learning needs the opportunity to experience the pleasure of reading books and studying texts. The SEN Corner was set up with the donation of Professor CHEUNG, Siu-keung, Vice President (University Administration) of HKSYU. He expressed that the university’s education is founded on Confucian values, and he also agrees with the idea of “great harmony and fairly well-off” that all sectors of society should pursue the ideal state of mutual care and assistance, and be willing to contribute to society mentioned in the Book of Rites, one of the Confucian classics.

To enhance students' knowledge of personal financial planning, the Office of Student Affairs and the Department of Economics and Finance jointly organized a seminar on "Smart Investigating and Insurance" on 22 February 2023. The Department of Chinese Language and Literature of HKSYU organized the third "Hong Kong Cantopop Lyrics Lecture". Prof. CHEUNG Siu-Keung, Vice President (University Administration) of HKSYU and professor of the Department of Sociology hosted the lecture with the theme "Uninvolved: The Self-Writing of Keung To's Songs". By examining the lyrics written by the idol singer Keung To as the lyricist, Prof. CHEUNG explores the main direction of current Cantopop lyrics and how to express the collective situation of Hong Kong people through its poetics.
Student from the Faculty of Social Science Receives Scholarships
Miss LI Yi Grace, a fourth-year student from the Department of Sociology, was awarded the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarships and became one of the six awardees in Hong Kong this year.
