Academic Vice President Professor CHAN Ching Selina was Appointed as a Member of AAB

The Government recently announced the membership of the Antiquities Advisory Board in its new term, Professor CHAN Ching Selina, Academic Vice President of HKSYU was appointed as a new member for a two-year term. Prof. CHAN Ching is a professor in the Department of Sociology, her research interests focus on cultural heritage and collective memories, food and identities, religion and intangible cultural heritage, as well as kinship, lineage and colonialism. She is also a member of the Sub-committee on ICH Items under the Intangible Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lord Wilson Heritage Trust.

“Mentorship Programme” Explores Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

Stepping into 2023, with the relaxation of COVID-19 policies, the outdoor activity session of the “Mentorship Programme” has finally resumed after 2019. This activity took Lamma Island as the first activity venue, and it is also the first hiking activity organized by the “Mentorship Programme” for 20 years.

The Department of Journalism and Communication Obtains More than HK$1.5 million Funding to Promote Knowledge Transfer

Two research projects “Ving Tsun – Martial Arts in Artificial Intelligence” and “Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage and IPMAN Ving Tsun”, both led by Dr. Lee Ka Man, Head of the Department of Journalism and Communication, were separately granted funding of HK$1.18 million from the Innovation and Technology Fund and HK$0.4 million from the Tin Ka Ping Foundation. The two projects have been conducted activities in July 2022, through the use of digital media and artificial intelligence technology, and the use of picture books to analyze the relationship between intangible cultural heritage and Chinese culture for primary and secondary school students progressively, thus promoting knowledge transfer.

HKSYU and IBM jointly popularize data research and promote digital humanities

On 30 August, Dr. Connie Yuen, Head of the Department of Applied Data Science, Director of iFREE GROUP Innovation and Research Centre, and Director of the Big Data Laboratory, attended the IBM Technology Day and shared how HKSYU actively develops digital humanities under the epidemic to ensure that the University remains competitive in the digital age.
