
HKSYU Students Represent Hong Kong to Participate in the “GBA College Students Creative Festival”
HKSYU students participated in the “Greater Bay Area College Students Creative Festival” (hereinafter referred to as “GBA Creative Festival”). Four teams of HKSYU students won in the 2022 GBA Creative Festival (Hong Kong Division) and the winning teams were selected to represent Hong Kong to participate in the final contest held in Guangzhou in May. With the theme of “Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage”, the event aims to encourage Hong Kong students to promote cultural heritage through creative means, and to conduct in-depth research and exploration of intangible cultural heritage to raise public awareness of its development in Hong Kong.

Alliance Forum Foundation Asia Launching Ceremony
Mr. Steven Loke, a member of Hong Kong Shue Yan University’s Board of Governors and the Executive Chairman of iFREE Group, has taken the helm of the newly established Alliance Forum Foundation Asia. It will serve as a regional office of the Alliance Forum Foundation, a non-governmental organization founded by Ambassador George Hara, a technology entrepreneur and venture capitalist, to facilitate social and ec onomic development in Asia.

Successful Conclusion of SYU Cup 7-a-side Football Competition
The SYU Cup 7-a-side Football Competition was successfully concluded on 1 April 2023, which was the final SYU Cups competition organized by the P.E. Section in the current academic year. Five teams participated in the competition, except the members of the football school team, members of other sports teams, and students from the Department of Social Work were also attracted to participate in the competition.

Lecture on “Encountering Whang Tong in the ‘Long 18th Century’” Seeing China Through Little People
The Department of History held its final academic lecture of the semester with the topic “Encountering Whang Tong in the ‘Long 18th Century’” on 27 April. The lecture was jointly organized by the Department of History, Loke Kok Kuen Chinese Cultural Legacy Research Trust, and the Centre for Research and Teaching in Chinese History. Prof. CHING May Bo, Head of the Department of Chinese and History at The City University of Hong Kong, was invited to share her research findings. In addition to students from Shue Yan University, scholars from Mainland China and Hong Kong also participated in this event.

The Department of History Held an Academic Lecture on “From Chronicles of Xin’an Country to Hong Kong Chronicles: The Evolution and Innovation of Chinese Local Chronicles”
The Department of History, Loke Kok Kuen Chinese Cultural Legacy Research Trust, and the Centre for Research and Teaching in Chinese History co-organized an academic lecture on “From Chronicles of Xin’an Country to Hong Kong Chronicles: The Evolution and Innovation of Chinese Local Chronicles”. Dr. CHOI Sze Hang Henry, the Managing Editor of the Hong Kong Chronicles Institute (HKCI) was invited as the guest speaker. Dr. CHOI presented a systematic account of the development of Chinese local chronicles and the current compilation of the Hong Kong Chronicles to attending scholars and students.
