HKSYU Library Newly Set Up a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Corner

The newly set up Special Educational Needs (SEN) Corner at HKSYU Library is being operationalized to provide students with special learning needs the opportunity to experience the pleasure of reading books and studying texts. The SEN Corner was set up with the donation of Professor CHEUNG, Siu-keung, Vice President (University Administration) of HKSYU. He expressed that the university’s education is founded on Confucian values, and he also agrees with the idea of “great harmony and fairly well-off” that all sectors of society should pursue the ideal state of mutual care and assistance, and be willing to contribute to society mentioned in the Book of Rites, one of the Confucian classics.

The Department of Law and Business Organized a Seminar and Workshop Enhancing Public Understanding of the Concept and Practice of Restorative Justice

The Department of Law and Business held an international conference on “Restorative Justice” on December 10, with the theme of “Restorative Justice, Psychology and Neuroscience”, renowned overseas and local scholars were invited to explore the relationship between the three, and how they can help the people falling into the wrong path carelessly and the victims of crime on the road to recovery.

Three Departments under the Faculty of Social Science Celebrate the Relocation of New Offices

The Department of Counseling and Psychology, the Department of Sociology, and the Department of Social Work under the Faculty of Social Science held a celebration for the completion and relocation of new offices on the 7th and 8th floors of the Shue Yan University Library Complex on January 17. The University hopes to transform the 7th to 9th floors into staff offices through renovation and reorganization of the library, this new working environment can bring the staff together and inspire them in academic research. For example, the current 8th floor of the library mainly gathers staff from the three departments of Social Work, Counseling and Psychology, and Sociology, promoting communication and exchange among the departments, which is believed to be helpful in inspiring and stimulating teaching ideas.

Chief Secretary for Administration Mr. Chan Kwok-ki Visits HKSYU: Progressing with the Times to Respond to the Needs of Young People

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr. Chan Kwok-ki attended the “JMC Talk” held by the Department of Journalism and Communication of HKSYU on January 17, sharing his views on the “Youth Development Blueprint”. Mr. Chan expressed the need to nurture a new generation of young people with an affection for our country and Hong Kong and equipped with a global perspective, adopting a positive attitude towards young people, strengthening the sense of ownership of young people, and responding to the needs of young people in a timely manner.

“Mentorship Programme” Explores Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

Stepping into 2023, with the relaxation of COVID-19 policies, the outdoor activity session of the “Mentorship Programme” has finally resumed after 2019. This activity took Lamma Island as the first activity venue, and it is also the first hiking activity organized by the “Mentorship Programme” for 20 years.

Academic Vice President Professor CHAN Ching Selina was Appointed as a Member of AAB

The Government recently announced the membership of the Antiquities Advisory Board in its new term, Professor CHAN Ching Selina, Academic Vice President of HKSYU was appointed as a new member for a two-year term. Prof. CHAN Ching is a professor in the Department of Sociology, her research interests focus on cultural heritage and collective memories, food and identities, religion and intangible cultural heritage, as well as kinship, lineage and colonialism. She is also a member of the Sub-committee on ICH Items under the Intangible Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lord Wilson Heritage Trust.

BA Student Jessica Wins International Award for Innovative Project

Our student wins an international award. The International Unit has previously launched a Virtual International Online Program for our students in collaboration with the Singapore University of Social Science (SUSS), the third-year student Jessica from the BBA HRMAP programme successfully stood out of multinational participants after completing the courses, and won The Most Liked Solution Award by the Make A Difference (MAD) course of SUSS.
